Background Information

The South Australian Tourism Alliance, (SATA) was formed after the demise of the Tourism Council of Australia in December 2000.

The SA Tourism Alliance is an organization created to provide the Tourism Industry with a focal point to address the challenges of 'Big Picture" issues that affect all Tourism operators within South Australia. This essentially includes lobbying both the Government & Opposition, to maximize support, for an industry that is now considered a major contributor to this State's economy.

SATA works in conjunction with similar Tourism Alliance groups in all other states and the ACT and collectively are members of the National Tourism Alliance as the representative body of the tourism industry in Australia.

Objectives

Our objectives are to:

  1. Promote a wider understanding of travel and tourism as a major activity that contributes substantially to the economic and social well being of South Australia.
  2. Pursue policies that no single industry sectors, association, region or member could be expected to advance on its own and provide advocacy support on key issues relating to various sectors of the industry.
  3. Promote professionalism within the Industry to encourage delivery of quality experiences for visitors within and to South Australia.
  4. Pursue the adoption of state policies that encourage new business opportunities within the tourism industry
  5. Pursue, with state and local governments, funding for programs and implementation of policies that are appropriate and responsive to the needs of travel and tourism to and within South Australia.
  6. To be an active member of the National Tourism Alliance [NTA] as the peak national tourism industry body.
